The 2nd Watch (Midnight Watch): 9pm - 12am
‘Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out your heart like water before the face of Yahuah: lift up your hands toward Him for the life of your young children, that faint for hunger in the top of every street.’ Lamentations 2:19
When I began studying the Watches of the Night, and the Hours of the Day, I started with the night watches, because of Genesis 1:5;
‘....And the evening and the morning were the first day.’
I’ve always had the mindset: if it’s in the Bible, and Yah has said it; it is what it is. This scripture is a 180 from what I was taught growing up, i.e., the day begins at sunrise, not the other way around. I was a little brain-warped for a while trying to discern how that worked out in a modern world. As an adult, studying the divisions of Yahuah’s Daily Time Clock has revealed yet another aspect of His Heavenly Calendar; and that has helped shed light on how I can make my prayer life much more fulfilling.
I am just learning the significance of the hourly divisions, not because I didn’t want to (I didn’t know they existed); rather, I now believe it simply wasn’t time for me to understand the watches, until it was. That’s how I feel about most things spiritual. If it’s meant for you to receive it; Yah will make it happen. ‘To everything there is a season,’ after all. As of now, I’m learning to discipline myself to fulfill the ‘callings’ of my prayer segments. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I don’t. I don’t beat myself up over it. I try again the next night - provided it’s Yah’s will that I have another night. However, I have discerned via prayer and the Ruach, HaQodesh, that my assigned ‘watch’ are the hours between 0300 to 0600, the Cock Crowing and Morning Watches; specifically 0500.
It is true that if you are called by Yahuah to guard the Watches of the Night, and you have been consistently awakened during certain hours of the night (at 0300 for example); then you are being called to pray and intercede for your brothers and sisters of the Covenant, during that hour. Specifically pray that they are not overtaken and attacked by the devil. Yah is gently guiding you to pray for your loved ones, friends, communities, the nation. You have an ordained calling to fulfill.
