Train Up A Child:To Never Lie On Others

‘You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.’ 4

Exodus 20:16, Cepher Bible

The 9th Commandment

The transgression of this Commandment has been the downfall of many biblical characters. Allow me to list a few:

  • Yezebel reported to her husband, King Ahab, that Naboth had cursed Yah and Ahab. Naboth had not. As a result, Naboth was dragged outside the city, and stoned to death. This was done so that Ahab could acquire Naboth’s vineyard. 1 Kings 21:1-16

  • Doeg, a servant of King Saul, reported to him that Ahimelech, High Priest of Nob, a priestly city, had given the sword of Goliath to David. Saul became angry and ordered the execution of all the priests of Nob. Doeg was the executioner. 1 Samuel 22: 6-23

  • Yahusha, HaMashiach was on trial before the Sanhedrin. False witnesses came forward and testified against Yahusha. Their testimony did not ‘add-up.’  Yahusha testified on his own behalf, was accused, and convicted of blasphemy. He was found guilty and crucified at Golgotha. Matthew 26:57-66, Mark 14:53-64, Luke 22:66-71

  • Stephen, a deacon and Natsar follower of Yahusha, HaMashiach, taught the Resurrection of Yahusha openly in Jerusalem. He was arrested, accused of blasphemy by false witnesses, dragged outside the city and stoned to death. A young man guarded the garments of the men who threw the rocks. That young man  later became known as Paul, Apostle to the Gentiles. Acts 6:8-15, Acts 7: 54-60.

We can see that there were deadly consequences for the individuals convicted due to false testimony; and wrongful deaths due to the same circumstances are still occurring today. It’s important that our children understand the potential impact on others  for doing so.
